Maybe some one can explain how the pilots work on the various models. I have a model B that I manually light with a wand lighter each time I cook. Is there a way to have a perminent flame burning or have my expectations outdated the technology of the stove. Some building codes require a pilot that stays lit so its got me curious.
Thanks!

There is a pilot on the B & C models for both the top burners and the Thermowell. Neither have pilots for the broiler/griddle or oven, though some later "C" models had them for the oven.
Something's wrong with one of the following:\
A. The pilot light for the burners will not stay lit. This could be for several reasons (the Service Manual would help you here, or we can pass along advice from here).
B. The flashtubes are either missing, broken, or dirty.
See what you can figure out and we'll try to help.
Having a Service Manual is a good idea - let me know if you need one.

I have a 14-B and due to the B not having a vent in the middle of the stovetop for the pilot light, mine tends to stay rather warm.
I had DH turn mine off and I prefer using a wand lighter like you.I just don't like my stovetop always being "warm" and putting off so much heat. During winter I might have DH turn it back on. On the thermawell we keep the pilot lit and the cover is always warm. I'm a little leary of manually lighting it.
Be sure to check the items Todd listed and be sure to order a service manual. It is one of the most valuable tools for you Chamber stove!!
